Smart city technologies offer unprecedented capabilities to track urban residents with great precision, raising significant ethical concerns regarding privacy and safety. This systematic review gathers and categorizes existing literature on the ethics of smart cities. Authors conducted a keyword search across 5 databases, identifying 34 academic publications from 2014 to 2022. The review highlights that articles primarily address ethical issues such as privacy, safety, and fairness, along with specific technology-based reviews and frameworks for guiding discussions. This paper serves as a valuable resource for practitioners, researchers, and stakeholders by organizing and consolidating the knowledge surrounding smart city ethics into a single comprehensive source.
